William C. "Bill" Evans

William C. Bill Evans, 77, of Urbana, passed away unexpectedly at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, Springfield, OH. Bill was born in McDermott, OH, on September 2, 1936 to the late Roscoe Evans and Daisy (Crabtree) Jones. He grew up in Urbana, OH and then proudly served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1957. Bill retired from St. Mary Church and School in Urbana after 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He was an active and lifelong member of American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120 and Spriggs-Wing VFW Post 5451. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen (Massie) Evans; a son, Craig (Becky) Evans of Urbana; daughter, Brenda (Ed) Donnaker of Springfield; several grandchildren he was most proud of, Chris (Jennifer) Evans, Cori (Jason) Curtis, Jason (Ashley) Donnaker, Erynne (Gary) Ferryman, Caleb Evans and Casey Evans; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale and Oak Evans and John Jones; and sister, Mary Lou Daulton. Bill and his son Craig enjoyed meeting every Friday at the Twain Ave. Mens Club with special friends, Denny Pence, Dave, Ralph and Greg. He truly was a special man who had no idea how many lives he touched. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Grandview Cemetery in Urbana for a graveside service with son-in-law Ed Donnaker presiding. Burial will follow with military honors performed by the American Legion. Contributions may be made in Bills memory to St. Mary Catholic Church, 231 Washington Ave., Urbana, OH 43078.
