Viola May Boyd

Viola May Boyd, age 96, of Urbana, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022. She was born on May 27, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Bowman) Mattox. Viola was a resident of Champaign County for most of her life. She retired from WB Marvins after many years of service. She loved baking and cooking and was a pastry chef at the airport café for many years. Everyone loved aunt Vi’s pies, especially her black raspberry. She adored her family and loved nothing more than spoiling her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie E. Boyd on April 15, 2000; siblings, Edward Mattox, Jean Zerkle, Donald Mattox and Lucille Mattox; sisters-in-law, Ruth Mattox and Thelma Mattox; and brothers-in-law, Marion January, Robert Zerkle and David Murray. She is survived by her children, Linda (Andy) Yoder, Leslie (Chadwick) Boyd-Watkins and Lee Boyd; grandchildren, Mercedes (Gary) Kline, Karrigan Boyd and Leeland Boyd; great-grandchild, Hayden Kline; sisters, Wanda January and Doris Murray; former daughter-in-law, Lori Boyd; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 10:30a.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Walter & Lewis Funeral Home.
