Victor Howard “Howie” Dickerson, 60, of Urbana, is at peace as he passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born on December 28, 1955 in Urbana, OH, a son of Victor and Ruth (Jackson) Dickerson. He graduated in 1974 from Urbana High School where he played football and basketball. Right out of high school he began traveling all over with his work with horses and drove in local county races. He enjoyed working with many drivers, including Dick Buxton. Howie was a well-liked individual.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth (Jackson) Dickerson of Urbana; sister, Mary Ruth (Glenn) McLaughlin of Tucson, AZ; 2 nieces, Megan (Nathan) Snapp of Springfield and Meredith (Jason) Hall of Rochester, MI; 5 great-nephews, Brock Engi, Raiqwon Morton, Warrick Snapp, Xavier Hall and Thaddeus Hall; 4 great-nieces, Abbie Engi, Allie Engi, Kelsey Campbell (Charles Gray) and Jade Campbell; a great, great, great-niece, Karma Gray; numerous cousins, including first cousin Jeffrey (Judy) Jackson of Marion; and friend, Dwayne McCarthy of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandmother, Mary Jackson; niece, Michele Russell; and uncle Floyd Jackson.
Family will receive friends from 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 in WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Elder Gregory Irvin officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
