Verna Maye Johnson

Verna Maye Johnson, 98, of South Dartmouth, MA, formerly of Urbana, OH, died Aug. 1, 2013 in New Bedford, MA. Verna was born on May 5, 1915 in Springfield, OH, the daughter of Daniel and Georgia (Smith) Langhorne. She attended Springfield High School, previously worked at Grimes Manufacturing and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Verna moved to South Dartmouth, MA three years ago to live with her daughter. She was a missionary and a member of the Lay Organization, Steward Board, Eastern Star, The Sisterhood and the Friendship Club. Survivors include a daughter, Rillis Watkins and her husband, Robert, of South Dartmouth, MA, granddaughter Robbie Watkins of South Dartmouth, MA, great-granddaughter, Malicia Watkins of Utah, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Johnson in 1992, grandson, Robert James Watkins, sister, Opal Drake and her husband Cecil, brother, Carl Langhorne and his wife Theresa, and two nephews, Richard and Danny Drake. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Dye and Rev. Rayford Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. Contributions in Vernas memory may be made to the Cancer Association of Champaign County, P.O.
