Sylvia Surena Evans

EVANS, Sylvia Surena age 77 of Mechanicsburg, Ohio passed away peacefully at Ohio State Medical Center.  She was born on March 7, 1946 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Ryland and Margaret (Overstreet) Rock.  In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Thomas "Tom" Evans and brothers Ryland "R.J." Rock Jr. and George Rock. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her children:  children: Surena (Steve) Neer and TD (Lindsey) Evans, grandchildren; Laura (Tate) Mobley, Courtney (Alex) McDole, Brittany Neer, Daniel Neer, Rhys Evans, and Kara Evans; great-granddaughter, Brynlee Mobley and sister-in-law, Charlotte Rock.  Sylvia was a devoted  wife and mother, choosing to stay at home to raise her children before going back to school to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Cedarville University. She enjoyed playing the piano for Chapel Hill Church of God, where she and her late husband were members.  Sylvia was an avid fan of all Virginia Tech sports and loved to cheer on the Cincinnati Bengals.  You could find her tending to her flowers  that she took pride in growing around her home and always had a soft spot in her heart for dogs.   Sylvia or affectionately known as Grandmama by her grandchildren will be sadly missed by those who knew her.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Walter & Lewis Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com
