Steven J. Loffing of Urbana, Ohio passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at the Ohio Hospice. Steven fought a courageous battle of heart disease and cancer for many years. The extensive support system he had was what kept him fighting. During his time at the hospice facility, he was actually transferred to a larger room to accommodate all the guests that came daily to comfort and spend time with him. Steven was born on June 7, 1951 to the late Tom and Mary Ann (Dye) Loffing. He was a graduate of Urbana High School and attended Wittenberg University. Steven was a fireman and paramedic for the Urbana Fire Department from June 1, 1975 to August 8, 1992. He also worked as the HR director for Champaign Residential Service from March 7, 1992 to November 17, 2012.
Steven loved spending time at his boat and fishing off his dock at Indian Lake. He was also an avid reader and had a large book collection. He loved all of his family and taking family vacations.
Steven is survived by his wife Sandra (Garey) Loffing, five children: Tad Loffing, Stacey (Russ) Bohannon, Stephanie (Tim) Vellky, Heather (Andy) Jameson, Heidi (Travis) Rosser, 14 grandchildren: Rachel Loffing, Isaac Loffing, James Loffing, Thomas Loffing, Matthew Loffing, Owen Bohannon, Jack Vellky, John Vellky, Sydney Vellky, Sara Jameson, Kendall Jameson, Chase Hammonds, Conner Hammonds, and Kiersten Rosser, one great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Hammonds, and 4 siblings: Jim Loffing, Kenny (Debbie) Loffing, David (Karen) Loffing, and Laura (Frank) Guarasci. Along with his parents, Steven is preceded in death by his in-laws, Bud and Mary Garey.
A committal service will be held for Steven at Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. A celebration of Steven’s life will be held at the Champaign Residential Service, Urbana on Saturday, October 29, 2022 beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., all family and friends are welcome. In honor of Steven’s devotion to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Ohio State vs. Penn State football game will be played during the celebration time. Food and drinks will be provided. Everyone is invited to wear their favorite Buckeyes gear or scarlet and gray. Memorial contributions may be made to the Urbana Fire Department and Hospice of Dayton in Steven’s honor.
