Steven Edward Randall, 65, of Urbana, died in his residence on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. He was born on April 6, 1947 in Urbana, Ohio, the son of Robert E. and Helen (Watson) Randall. Steven was a member of Saint Mary Magdalen in Altamonte Springs, Fla. and was a Deputy Chief, Fire Marshal and Chief Building Official for the city of Altamonte Springs, Fla. Steven graduated from the Hilliard Community College in Florida with a degree in fire science and was also a graduate of the Executive Fire Officers Program in Emmittsburg, MD. He was the past president of the Florida Fire Marshal Association and was the chairman of the Southern Building Codes Commission. He was named the Florida Fire Marshal of the Year in 1999 and was the co-author of the National Fire Protection Association Fire Codes in Quincy, Mass. He was a respected authority on fire and building codes and he was on many associations’ speed dial for interpretation of these codes. He was also fervently involved in promoting residential fire sprinklers and was responsible for enactment of the Altamonte Springs Residential Fire Sprinkler Bill. He is survived by his mother, wife, Linda (Clyburn) Randall, son, Steven T. and his wife Jodi Randall and their son Cole, all of Frisco, TX, brothers, Terry (Sharon) Randall of Urbana, Timothy (Susan) Randall of San Antonio, TX, and Michael Randall of Jacksonville, Fla., sister, Deborah (Paul) Guey of Urbana, nieces, Stacey and Hillary Randall of Urbana, Amy Randall of Jacksonville, Fla. and Heather and Stephanie Guey of Urbana, nephews, Dennis Sanchez of Mechanicsburg, Robert Randall of Jacksonville, Fla., Josh Randall of Columbus, and Kevin and Nathan Randall of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father in 2008 and daughter, Anna Michelle “Shelley” Randall in 1985. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Walter & Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, with Pastor Jim Chess officiating.
