Ruth L. Goddard, 101, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in her Great nieces home. She was born on March 6, 1912 in Champaign County, OH, the daughter of Clarence V. and Sarah Catherine (Dibert) Goddard. Ruth was a 1929 graduate of Terre Haute School and a 1930 graduate of Westville and attended Springfield Business College. She worked for Knights of Pythias Home of Springfield for 42 years and Wagner Service for 17 years. Ruth was a life member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was financial secretary for 44 years, a member of the United Methodist Women, Tip Top Club and a member of the choir. She was also a past chief of the Knights of Pythias Temple and a member of the Red Star Temple. Ruth was an extraordinary woman. She was devoted to God as well as family members and spent a large portion of her life caring for her mother after the loss of her father. She was always available to spend time with any family members or friends to talk and catch up. She was well known for her laugh, her sugar cookies, popcorn balls and pies. Survivors include a nephew Ronald (Janet) Goddard of Terre Haute; 3 nieces, Marilyn (Joe) Stanley of Terre Haute, Carolyn (Walter) Wyatt of Cincinnati, Leona (John) Schaefer of Kansas City; 3 Great Nephews, Dale (Linda) Goddard of Terre Haute, Mark Stanley of Terre Haute, Jeff (Sheila) Wyatt of Cincinnati; 4 Great Nieces, Carol Goddard (Barb Ropp) of Westville, Sheryl (Tony) Ropp of Terre Haute, whom lovingly took care of Ruth in their home, Lora (Mike) Brown of Terre Haute, Ann (John) Furnier, of Hope, MI; 19 Great-Great Nieces and Nephews, Grant, Ryan, Matthew and Eric Goddard, Tyler and Jordan Laughman, Tia and Wesley Ropp, Courtney and Cody Salyers, Nicholas and Victoria Wyatt, Sarah, Matthew and Hannah Furnier, Brooke Lanum, Chelsie, Nathan and Spencer Stanley; 7 Great-Great-Great Nieces and Nephews, Kiersten Ropp, Skyler Ropp, Chase and Alexis Nickells, Dyllon Ropp, Tristen and Alex Lanum. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ivan (Helen) Goddard, and sisters, Norma (Orville) Hullinger, and Martha Goddard and a Great-Great-Great Nephew, Elijah Lee Laughman. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the Terre Haute United Methodist Church 5938 St. Rt. 55, Urbana, where a service will be held at Noon with Pastor David Yinger officiating. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to the Terre Haute United Methodist Church.
