Roger Allen Fitzwater

FITZWATER, Roger Allen, 81, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, surrounded by his family in his Urbana home. Born to the late Robert Earl and Garnett Druscilla (Ashing) Fitzwater on October 11, 1940, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Leo Fitzwater and Wilta Jane Fitzwater, as well as his step-mother Marybell Brandeberry and a beloved granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Fitzwater. Roger leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Judith Ann Fitzwater, their children Charles (Darlene) Fitzwater, Valerie (Rick) Thacker, and Kathleen (Robert) Davis as well as 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Roger was very proud to have served honorably in the United States Navy as a Radioman aboard USS DuPont. He sang in a barbershop quartet, was a fourth degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and a first class electrician at the Springfield Masonic Home, retiring after many dedicated years of service. Roger loved his family, crossword puzzles, and his dog, Joey, who brought him immeasurable joy. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jacob Lindle and Father Gregory Konerman presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Roger's honor be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, or Sycamore House Pregnancy and Family Life Center.
