Robert L. "Bob" Chamberlain

Robert L. “Bob” Chamberlain, age 93, of Urbana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, June 19, 2023. Bob was born on May 22, 1930, in North Lewisburg, the son of the late Paul E. and Donna H. (Loveland) Chamberlain. Bob grew up in North Lewisburg and graduated from North Lewisburg High School. While in school, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Kitchen and they married on February 26, 1949. Bob’s life was centered around his family and his proudest achievement was being a father to his 8 children. He always made sure to provide, working different jobs including being a railroad worker, a bank teller at Bank of North Lewisburg, retired after many years of service from the Howard Paper Mill where he was a 30 year member of the Fox River Club and was a Clerk for Rush Township. When his kids were growing up, he made sure to take them on numerous day trips which instilled a deep love for travelling in each one of them. He was known for his creativity and was a mastermind at making up games for the family to play. Bob was a man who never complained and made the best out of whatever life threw at him. He enjoyed being outside, especially mushroom hunting, but his favorite outdoor activity was playing fast pitch softball for the North Lewisburg Firemen. Bob was always athletic and competitive, even into his older years. Most recently, he enjoyed going to the Urbana Champaign County Senior Center where you could find him playing chair volleyball with friends. Bob and Dorothy have been members of St. Mary Catholic Church since they moved to Urbana in 1978 and he will be missed deeply by his church family and his many friends. He leaves behind his loving wife of 74 years, Dorothy Chamberlain; children, David (Myung) Chamberlain, Tony (Jill) Chamberlain, Steve (Alice) Chamberlain, Cathy Parks, Daniel (Moreen) Chamberlain, Larry (Anna Marie) Chamberlain and Troy Chamberlain; brother, Michael (Peggy) Chamberlain; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Spain; and brother, Paul (Wanda) Chamberlain. Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 9:45am-10:45am at Walter & Lewis Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Shawn Landenwitch officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bob to the Urbana Champaign County Senior Center, 150 Patrick Ave. Urbana, OH 43078.
