Robert G. Hamilton, 79, of Urbana, died on Thursday, September 17, 2015 in Vancrest of Urbana. He was born on April 30, 1936 in Fayette County, OH, the son of Roger Edward and Hester Mae (Jolly) Hamilton. Robert was a 1954 graduate of Salem High School, an account executive at Voelker Food Brokers and was a member of Urbana United Methodist Church. Bob was head of the Champaign County Democratic Party, served on the Champaign County Board of Elections for 15 years during which he served as chair for four years and introduced change in the voting system. He received the Small County Democratic Chairman of the Year Award and helped establish the Betty Murray Scholarship and Cedar Bog Preservation Fund. He also served on the board of directors for the Tri-County Community Action, was a member of the Urbana Lions Club and a former member of the Urbana Optimist Club. Survivors include his wife Betty (Doty) Hamilton; daughters, Patti Hamilton of Columbus and Robin Traxler of Columbus; sons, Roger Hamilton (Cathy Nill) of Urbana and Michael (Susan Star) Hamilton of Athens; son-in-law, Scott Hartman of Columbus; grandchildren, Chloe Zolo, Spencer Ardo, Tyson Ardo, Kristoffer Hamilton, Rosalie Hamilton, Lily Hamilton, and Addison Hartman; great-grandchildren, Dylan Ardo, Nevaeh Speckman, Lucai Hamilton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amy Hamilton-Hartman; brother, A.T. Hamilton; and sister, Louise Bland. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 in the Urbana United Methodist Church, 238 N. Main St., Urbana, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 with Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Kings Creek Cemetery.
