Robert E. Evans

Robert Edgar “Bob” Evans, 78, of Urbana, passed peacefully at his home on April 5, 2017. He was born June 29, 1938 in Urbana, OH. Bob was the son of the late Richard and Erdean (Shy) Evans.
Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan (Carter) Evans; two daughters, Teresa Evans McCracken of Dayton, OH and Jennifer Evans Stewart (Harry) of Huffman, TX; foster daughter, Victoria Newcomb McClain (Travis) of San Diego, CA; sister, Nina Sue Evans Berkemeier of Urbana. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Emily Rachel Evans, Robert Reed Johnson, Michael Evan Johnson, Kathleen Elizabeth Stewart, Kelly Susan Stewart and Charles Jacob McClain; and two great-grandchildren, James Ethan Wolff and Carly Elizabeth Rose-Johnson.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Richard William “Bill” Evans.
Bob was a 1956 graduate of Urbana Local High School. He served as a Director of Marketing Service for the Standard Register Company for 25 years and two years with R.L. Crain Ltd. In Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In 1981, he and Sue moved to Shining Tree, Ontario, where they owned and operated Shining Tree Tourist Camp, a fishing-hunting camp, for 21 years, offering fishing excursions and moose and bear hunts. Bob’s love of fishing and the great outdoors was manifested in this life until his retirement, after which he spent his time between his home on the Evans Family’s bicentennial farm in Urbana and his home in Canada. During his years in Canada, Bob served as a substitute teacher for the local school, specializing in computer technology and Photoshop. Bob also served on the Fisheries Advisory Committee with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 2–4 p.m., in the Walter & Lewis Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, OH, followed by a brief memorial service.
