Robert "Bob" M. Howe

Robert (Bob) Howe, 87, of Urbana, passed on Friday, August 15, 2014 in the loving care of Gold Wing at Vancrest of Urbana. Bob was born on October 27, 1926 in Akron, OH, the son of Arthur and Effie (McCain) Howe. Effie moved the family to Rosewood in the thirties to help run the farm. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Motorola in Mesa, AZ. He is Past Master of Harmony Lodge No. 8 F & AM and member of the American Legion. He coached Little League baseball for several years at the Gwynne Street ballpark. Bob was a par golfer until his health took the fun out of playing. Bob leaves family behind: daughter Brenda (Dennis) Rogers of Mesa, AZ; son Bruce Howe, of Urbana; former wife Carlene Howe, of Urbana; 7 grandchildren, Balynda, Rochelle and Meggan Howe of San Jose, CA, Mary Elizabeth (Rogers) Baum, Kimberly Rogers and Matthew Howe of Mesa, AZ, and Amy (Rogers) Koepke of Calgary, Alberta; great-grandson, Jacob Rogers of Mesa, AZ; sister, Maxine Maurice of Urbana; nieces and nephews, Allen (Sue) Maurice of Urbana, Peggy (John) Saari of Yellow Springs, Terri (Phil) Thornton of Urbana and Robin (Steve) Yoders of Marysville and others. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Tim Howe and Dale Howe; brothers, Herb, Harry and Bill; and sister, Edith. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2014 in WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, followed by military services provided by the U.S. Navy and Pearce-Kerns American Legion Post 120.
