CARMAZZI, Robert Angelo (Bob), passed peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Bob was born September 26, 1924 in Waynesburg, Ohio, the son of the late Victoria (Andreini) and Francis Carmazzi. He was a 1943 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Bob served our great country in the 10th Mountain Division during WWII and was released to help run “Carmazzi’s,” the family business in Urbana, when his father passed in 1944. After helping to support his family for several years, he branched out on his own and bought a local clothing store. However, he found his ideal career in manufacturing, working with Siemens Corporation for over 35 years.
Bob was very active in the community and was a Fourth Degree member in the Knights of Columbus, Urbana Council. He loved golf, cards and fishing, all of which he did frequently with his wife, sons and many friends. He was someone who spoke more in his actions than in his words and he had a great sense of humor that never left him.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, H. Jean (Dugan), to whom he was married for 70 years; his three sons and their spouses, H. Joseph Carmazzi and Cynthia (Deane) of Salisbury, NC; R. Frank and Deborah (Murrell) of Charlotte, NC; and Thomas M. and Deborah (Kuntz) of Hinsdale, IL; his five beloved grandchildren: Josh (Chris) Carmazzi, Rachel (Rodney) Osmeña, Rebecca (Sasha) Janes, and Michael and Christine Carmazzi; eight great-grandchildren: Brooke and Brittney Carmazzi, Ayden, Sofia and Ava Osmeña, and Jaidyn, Rykar and Taurin Janes; a dear brother, John (Michelle) Carmazzi of Urbana; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Gene Todd; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet (Dugan) and Norm Legge.
Family and friends will be welcomed from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 in the Walter & Stowe Funeral Home, Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Urbana. Interment will be in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, immediately following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed in Bob’s memory to the Caring Kitchen, Inc., 300 Miami Street, Urbana, OH 43078 or Champaign Residential Services Inc., a service to people with developmental disabilities and their families in Champaign County, P.O. Box 29, Urbana OH 43078.
