Richard G. "Shorty" Spires

SPIRES, Richard G. "Shorty" age 88 of Urbana passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his residence. He was born on June 20, 1931, the son of Mack and Opal (Dalton) Spires in Urbana, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Shorty is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Current) Spires; children: Kathy, Joetta and Richard W. Spires; sister, Dixie Stokes and brother, Ronald Spires. He is survived by his two grandchildren: Tracy (Thomas) Strange and Kyle (Courtney) Spires as well as three great-grandchildren. Shorty retired after 42 1/2 years at Grimes Manufacturing Company where he managed 142 people. He was an avid fisherman and loved chopping wood for his fireplace. He will be sadly missed by those that knew him. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Walter & Lewis Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Kitchen in Shorty's honor.
