Raymond Van Hoose, 94, of Urbana died Monday, August 14, 2023, at 1:40 a.m. at Oakwood Village Nursing Home in Springfield, OH. He was born June 22, 1929, in Columbus, OH, the son of Garfield and Asby (Davis/Blankenship) Van Hoose. Raymond graduated from Urbana High School in 1949. He was a farmer, worked in auto wrecking, and owned a car wash and laundromats. He also retired from Siemens in 1991. Survivors include his daughter, Ida Jeannine (Art) Chambers, sons Dennis Ray (Pam) Van Hoose, Bruce William (Karla) Van Hoose, Donald Victor Van Hoose, Roger Allan (Lorrie Jo) Van Hoose, Thomas Michael Van Hoose, and James Mearl Van Hoose; 15 grandchildren, Antonia (Rob) Kite, Gina (Kirk) Levy, Andrea Roush, Stephanie (Brian) Lute, Keith (Stacy) Davidson, Shad Van Hoose, Mindy (Jon) Van Gray, Jeremy Van Hoose, Jaci (Allen) Portis, Nick (Tricia) Van Hoose, Christy Smith, Nelson (Angel) Smith, Randi (Chris) Wagner, Vanessa Honore, and Alexis Chambers; 27 great grandchildren, Brittany Kite, Jennifer (Dustin) Eckurd, Marlee Kite, Adam Levy, Madison Lute, Megan Lute, Austin Van Hoose, Ivy Van Hoose, Dorian Van Gray, Emory Van Gray, Madyson (Noah) Burrowes, Mayson (Kimberly) Van Hoose, Trystan Van Hoose, Kinleigh White, Jalyn (Gunner) Grim, Meah Portis, Andrie Portis, Paige Smith, Brittian (Jessica) Holmes, Regina (Drew) Layne, Rochelle Kincaid, Cody Kincaid, Nathan Sowers, Onyx Yorker, Amethyst Yorker, Jett Yorker, and Gem Yorker; 4 great-great grandchildren, Tucker Eckurd, Owen Burrowes, Ariyah and Myles Layne; nieces and nephews. Special friends, the Major family, Judy Rucker, and his Tuesday morning coffee group: Roger and Melvin Blankenship and Johnny Woodworth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jeannine (Roberts) Van Hoose, parents, brothers Carl Blankenship, Clarence Blankenship, John “Okie” Blankenship, Arby Van Hoose, Hiram Van Hoose; sisters Bertie Woodworth and Mary Ohler; daughter-in-law, Nancy Van Hoose, and grandsons Jaime Paul Van Hoose and Jarret Van Hoose. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Walter & Lewis Funeral Home with service beginning at 11:00. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Graham Athletic Boosters at P.O. Box 33, St. Paris, OH 43072. The family would like to thank the Oakwood Nursing Home staff and aides for the wonderful care they gave Raymond during his stay.
