R. Nelson Wiant

R. Nelson Wiant, 82, of Urbana, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 2, 2017 at Heartland of Springfield.
He was born in Urbana on January 18, 1935, the son of the late Robert P. and Charlotte M. (Smith) Wiant. He was a retired employee of Urbana City Schools.
He attended Only Believe Ministry of Urbana. He loved woodworking, gardening, playing guitar and helping his family. He helped found and build the Urbana Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathy (Hardwick) Wiant; son, Robert Wiant of Urbana; daughter, Sheila and her husband Mike Grove; daughter, Connie and her husband Ed Jansen of West Carrolton; grandchildren, Chris Baldwin, Matt Gregg, Sarah Yellen and her husband Matthew, Steven Bates, Carrie Massie, Jenny Wright and her husband Eric and Eric Bates; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by a brother and sister, Bill Wiant and Phyllis Wiant.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 4-7p.m. at WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME. Service will be on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1p.m. also at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Burroughs officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
