Norma Cox

Norma Cox, 90, of Urbana, passed away peacefully in her home at 2:54 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014. She was born March 7, 1923 in Urbana, OH, the daughter of Luther and Elsie (Irvin) Snyder. She was a 1940 graduate of Urbana High School. Norma worked for Drs. Evans and Collins Optometrists for 23 years, was a member of First Baptist Church for 80 years and a member of Urbana Chapter #530 O.E.S. for 65 years. She was active in TWIG 27 at Mercy Memorial Hospital and enjoyed knitting, baking pies and reading her Bible. Norma married her husband, George W. Cox, on October 28, 1945 and he preceded her in death on December 21, 2008. Together they raised two daughters, Cathy Music and her husband Ray of Mechanicsburg and Cyndi Rosales of Urbana, and a son, Dan Cox and wife Kay of Kent. Other survivors include 2 grandsons, Joe Rosales and wife Laurie of Columbus and Jesse Rosales of Urbana; a great-granddaughter, Cailyn Rosales; a brother Bill Snyder and wife Joanne of Ocala, FL; several nieces and nephews, including beloved niece Cyn Melvin of Urbana; and special friends Mark and Sheila Good of Urbana. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Ruth Snyder and Marie Metzger, and brothers, Don Snyder and John Snyder. The family would like to acknowledge the Roger Deere family and thank Springfield Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Singh, the chemo nurses, staff and Connie the volunteer. They also wish to thank Community Mercy Hospice for the kindness and care they provided to Norma and her family. Family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2014 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Bruce Heckman officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Cox, Ray Music, Tony Rosales, Joe Rosales, Jesse Rosales and Mark Good. Memorial contributions may be made in Normas name to the Springfield Regional Cancer Center, 148 W. North St., Springfield, OH 45504 or Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W.
