Nora Lee Max, 92, of Urbana, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
She was born April 26, 1925 in Barnesville, OH, a daughter of George V. and Jessie (Phillips) McGlumphy. Nora was active in church choirs, sang with Guys & Dolls from the Senior Center and was active in the Sweet Adelines from Sidney, OH. She enjoyed bowling and golf and a highlight of her hobbies was in 1962 when she was part of the women’s bowling team that won the state championship. She also enjoyed taking care of her pet poodles.
Nora retired from Honeywell in 1988 and then worked part time at Walmart as a greeter.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. (Cynthia) Max of Urbana; grandchildren, Matthew E. Max of Cincinnati and Laura A. Max (Jonathan) Lane of Covington, KY; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Max and Andrew R. Max of Cincinnati; sister, Jane (Allen) Eschbaugh of Salesville, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert D. Max, who she married on May 12, 1945; brothers, Harry and Bill; and sisters, Jackie, Connie, Rosemary and JudyAnn.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mercy McAuley Center for their care of Nora, especially Martha, Ronda, Erin and Holly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Urbana United Methodist Church, PAWS Animal Shelter or Barely Used Pets.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
