Miriam E. Shaffner

Miriam E. Shaffner, 93, of Urbana, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 in Zusman Hospice, Columbus.
She was born February 13, 1924 in Champaign County, OH, a daughter of Charles Ralph and Emma E. (Wilkins) Scott. Miriam was a devoted wife who married Ralph Shaffner on May 19, 1946.
Miriam was the glue that held her siblings together. She accepted Christ as her Savior at 13 years old and her walk with God was her strength and stay. Her legacy of joy and happiness will be forever cherished by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived gracefully, humbly and, most of all, had a giving heart.
Survivors include her children, Greg (Beckie) Shaffner and Beth Hoskins; grandchildren, Charles, Alex and Dan Hoskins, Meghan Shaffner and Sam Shaffner; great-grandchildren, Liam Bauder and Emerson Wilkes; brothers, Richard (Dorothy) Scott, Gail (Joyce) Scott and Ernest Scott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph Shaffner in 1997; children, Louis R., Gerald D., Janet E. and John E. Shaffner; sisters, Dorothy Eaton and Violet Bailey; and brothers, Charles Scott Jr., Carlton Scott, Harlan Scott, Wayne Scott, William Scott, Don Scott, Max Scott and Lawrence Scott.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the Walter & Lewis Funeral Home, Urbana, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 with Rev. Lee Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Department of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union, 1553 Lancaster Pike, Circleville, OH 43113.
