Michael William Raterman

Michael William Raterman, age 47, passed away surrounded by his family at the James Cancer Hospital on March 9, 2016 after succumbing to a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. Mikes dedication to his family was paramount in his daily activities. He always put the needs of others ahead of his own and spent his entire life caring for those he loved. He made time in his life to visit with his aging parents, paint nephews house, help with his daughters many moves anything that people needed, he did. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, mushroom hunting and gardening in the spring, listening to music of all genres, and coaching each of his children in various sports. His greatest gift to his family and friends was the love that he always shared. Mike was a peacemaker and wanted everyone to be happy. He had a wonderful sense of humor and many of us experienced his lovingly sarcastic barbs. His friendly, kind hearted and loving nature will be missed by his many friends and relatives. Mike is survived by his wife Amie of 25 years; children, Cyerra, Chelsie, and Christopher and grandson Liam; siblings, Susan (Ken) Wilson, Rose (Frank) Kendricks, Charles (Laurie) Raterman, and Elizabeth (Beth) Evans; nieces and nephews, Keenan Purk, Steven Wilson, Jessica (Wilson) Skaggs, Alyssa & Katie Raterman, Taylor, Matthew and Laura Evans; mother-in-law Margaret Back, husband Ray, and father-in-law, Ron Dixon and Rosie Dixon (Granny); brother-in-law, Ernest (Ernie) Dixon and Ernies son, Conner. Mike was preceded in this journey by parents Paul and Kathryn (Guillozet) Raterman and sister Christina. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 1 PM to 4 PM in the Walter & Stowe Funeral Home, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana. Funeral services will be at Walter & Stowe on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
