Michael Edward Stokes Sr.

Michael Edward Stokes Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Born on May 25, 1952, to the late Harold Sr. and Minnie (McCune) Stokes in Urbana, Ohio.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Janice (Huffman) Stokes, children; David Michael Stokes, Samantha Jo Wilson, and Rebecca Lynn (Josh) Stokes, grandchildren: Natalee Best, Allison Best, Alexander Best, Miranda Wilson, and Logan Wilson, and brother, Harold Stokes Jr. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John Stokes, Harold Wood, Roger Stokes, Pamela Stokes, and Helen Stokes.

Michael’s career spanned for many years as a maintenance manager. He also spent time working for the local PAWS Animal Shelter. His talents extended far beyond his professional life. He was truly a "jack of all trades, master of none." He knew a little about a lot and was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. His resourcefulness knew no bounds. Those who knew him best would often say that he had his own language, “daddy-isms” – his own unique way of communicating. When Michael wasn't hard at work or embracing his jack-of-all-trades persona, he found solace in the great outdoors. Whether it was hunting or fishing, he loved his time spent with nature. Michael was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns football fan. Above all accomplishments and hobbies, Michael will be remembered for his warm heart, compassionate spirit, and love for his family. His departure has left an unfillable void in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Walter and Lewis Funeral Home, Urbana. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Michael will be laid to rest at Kings Creek Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
