Michael Smith

Michael Smith, 46, of Urbana, died in his residence on Sunday evening, February 22, 2015. He was born September 29, 1968 in Urbana, OH the son of James W. and Janet (Harrington) Smith. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1987 and attended Urbana University. Michael had previously worked at Roberts Refuse landfill and Dominos. He was a member of Moose Lodge #1215 and Eagles #979. He enjoyed playing golf and pool, watching NASCAR and making yearly trips to Talladega. Survivors include his mother, Janet Smith of Urbana; the love of his life and constant companion, Linda McConnell; 4 sisters, Joanne (Ed) Shelpman of Urbana, Phyllis Borders of Urbana, Laura (Rusty) McCoy of St. Paris and Kim (Tim) Sidders of Urbana; and one brother, Howard (Irene) Hawkins of Urbana. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Steve Davis; and brother-in-law, Gene Borders. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 with Pastor Tony Pena officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Aaron Huffman, Keith Smith, Frank Daniels Jr., Carl Horsley, Howard Miller and Tim Sidders. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew McConnell, Tanner Huffman, Heather Huffman, Michael McConnell, Rusty McCoy, Ed Shelpman and Howard Hawkins, Sr. Contributions may be made to Walter & Smith Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
