Mary Grove

Mary Allen Schafer Grove, 104, of Urbana, died Friday, October 9, 2015 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana. She was born on February 14, 1911 in Champaign County, OH, a daughter of Bess Milligan and William Allen. Mary was a 1930 graduate of Urbana High School and graduated from Bliss Business College. In 1933, she married Marion C. Schafer, who preceded her in death in 1942. She married Isaac W. Grove in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1962. Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirlene. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church for 94 years where she served for many years as a teacher and secretary. She also enjoyed participating in the First Baptist Church Bell Choir. She was a member of the Urbana Senior Citizen Center, was a 4-H advisor, liked to travel, enjoyed playing Bingo with friends at McAuley and was a faithful follower of the Lord. Survivors include 5 children, Kathleen, Marlene, Eileen, Margaret Peggy and Isaac Ned 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 13 great, great-grandchildren; special friend, Barb Stotler; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana with Pastor Brian Wonn officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church, 401 N. Main St., Urbana, OH 43078. The family would like to thank the nurses on Carmazzi Way and give a special thank you to Melissa, Jody, Iris, Mary Sue and Pastor Nancy.
