Loretta L. Metzger

Loretta Metzger, 76, of Urbana, went to join her husband on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Hearth & Home of Urbana.
She was born on July 6, 1940 in Springfield, OH, a daughter of Raymond Shirk and Gertrude (Powell). She married Wayne Metzger on June 9, 1961 in Hicksville, OH.
Loretta retired after 25 years of service at Urbana City Schools and was commonly known as the “lunch lady.” Many loved her specialties of Buckeyes and apple dumplings. In the past she was active in the Champaign County Homemakers and she thoroughly enjoyed her coffee clutch two times a week at Tim Hortons and McDonald’s. Loretta was ecstatic anytime she spent time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Steve Metzger of Urbana; two daughters, Kim Metzger of Urbana and Kristie (Michael) Flamm of Arizona; grandchildren, Matthew Flamm of Columbus, Tawnie (Alex) Baranick of New York City, Laura (Brian) Murphy of Baltimore, MD, Amanda Metzger of Springfield, Bradley Flamm of San Diego, CA and Joshua Dovell of Urbana; great-grandchildren, Amalina and Azland Powell of Bellefontaine and Tameron Browning of Springfield; siblings, Kay (Ted) Oberly of Springfield and Tim (Kay) Shirk of Springfield; half-brother, Joe (Tootie) Detrick of Toledo; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Metzger in March of 2012; and sister, Joyce Shirk.
A brief Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Simon Kenton Inn, 4690 Urbana Road, Springfield, followed at 1 p.m. by lunch and a time of sharing and remembrance. Friends and family are invited to attend all or part of this celebration of love and life.
