Lola Dean Stevens

Lola Dean Stevens, 90, of Troy, OH passed away in her home at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. She was born January 21, 1922 a daughter of Forrest D. and Lina May (Gearhart) Stevens. She graduated from Christiansburg-Jackson High School where she played on the girls basketball team. She had attended Moore's Business College. After working for more than 30 years, Lola Dean retired from Hobart Manufacturing in Troy, where she was the first woman to be named a department head. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching the Cincinnati Reds and being honored at her 90th birthday party. She was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church and the Christiansburg O.E.S. She is survived by one brother, Kenneth (Pauline) Stevens of Tipp City, sister-in-law, Esther Stevens of St. Paris and 22 nieces and nephews. Nephews Lowell (Julia) Stevens of Urbana and Brian (Julie) Stevens of Powell were her caretakers. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruth (Orville) Smith, Norma (Russell) Jenkins, brothers Waldo (Freida) Stevens, Russell (Marie) Stevens, Don (Sue) Stevens, and Ed Stevens. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana with the funeral being held at 2 p.m. Rev. Greg Dungan, a great nephew of Lola Dean, will officiate. Burial will follow in Honey Creek Cemetery, Christiansburg. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.walterfunerals.com.
