Lois Pearl Newman, 90, of Urbana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana. She was born in Cable, Ohio on January 24, 1923 to John and Goldie (Brigner) Butz. Lois graduated from Cable High School in 1941. In 1949, she married Robert Newman and together they spent their life farming in Mutual. She worked at Murphys Five & Dime store and W.B. Marvin during WWII. She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara (Allen) Sanford of Prattville, AL and two grandsons, Alex Sanford (fiancée Jessica Champlin) and Benjamin Sanford, both of Prattville, AL. She is also survived by a special caregiver, Roger Ropp of Urbana, OH, and several generations of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Newman in 1998, infant son Dale Michael Newman in 1950; brothers Charles Butz, Ernest Butz and William Butz; sisters Margaret Randall and Eleanor Bolin. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual. The family would like to thank the staff of Mercy McAuley Center and Community Mercy Hospice for their care of Lois over the past several years.
