Linda Mowrey

Linda Dianne Aller Mowrey, 69, of Urbana, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 in the Ohio Masonic Home, Springfield. She was born on October 16, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Albion Elementary Schools in Albion, IN. In 1963, Linda graduated from Patterson Co-Op in Dayton. Linda went to California in 1965 and attended Long Beach City College. She graduated in 1974 from California State University at Long Beach with a degree in psychology. While living in Long Beach, Linda participated in the emerging womans movement by being an original member of the Long Beach Rape Crisis Hotline. She testified to the California State legislature to advocate for respectful treatment of rape victims during investigations and trials. Linda returned to the Midwest and worked in mental health and chemical dependency treatment as a licensed professional counselor. In 1990 she began teaching full time at Clark State Community College. In 2002 she became the chairperson for mental health technology at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH. Over the years, Linda served on the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services advisory committee, the Champaign/Logan County Alcohol and Drug and Mental Health Services Board, McKinley Hall Board of Directors and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Linda loved traveling, playing guitar, knitting, photoshop, reading and spending time with dear friends and family. Linda is survived by her husband, Douglas Mowrey of Urbana; sons, Ted Deason and Joe Deason of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, Kelsey, Makoa and Maile Deason; her husbands daughter, Laura (David) Stokes of Urbana and son, Mark (Corinne) Mowrey of Urbana, and his 4 granddaughters, Maya, Mallory, Nora and Cara. She is also survived by sisters, Shirley (Al) Miller of Brookville, OH, Marilyn Morr and Carol Bender of Albion, IN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Aller, and sister, Phyllis Orr. In the last few years, Linda was a member of the Noble Circle in Dayton, an organization for women surviving and thriving after cancer. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to PAWS Animal Shelter, 1535 W. U.S. Route 36, Urbana, OH 43078 or Hospice of the Miami Valley, 1948 N. Limestone St., Springfield, OH 45503. Family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating.
