Kenneth V. Smith

Kenneth V. Smith, 85, of Urbana, passed away on March 9, 2015 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana. He was born November 26, 1929 in Urbana, OH to Naomi (Vance) and Leonard Smith. Kenny graduated from Urbana High School in 1948 where he was a member of the marching band. Kenny was a tool and die maker and retired from Navistar. He was also a deputy with the Champaign County Sheriffs Auxiliary. Kenny married Martha Wingfield in 1951 and she survives him. Also surviving is his son, Dale Smith (Karen Dunn) of Wilmington, N.C.; daughters, Jaci (Steve) Barrett of Urbana and Tammy (Bob) Zurawski of Friendswood, TX; grandchildren, David (Katie) Smith and Jessica Smith of Durham, N.C., Bradley (Jen) Barrett of Gahanna, OH, Kate and David Zurawski of TX, Josh (Roberta) Barrett of Denver, CO, and Lori (Jim) Matthews of Belle Center, OH; great-grandchildren, Gregory and Sylvia Smith, Jarret, Macy and Davis Matthews and Oliver and Elena Barrett; and many nieces and nephews. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jay and Sam. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015 in WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Christ Episcopal Church, 409 E. High St., Springfield with Rev. Charlotte Reed officiating.
