Kenneth E. “Poppy” Waters, age 80, of Urbana, OH, was ushered into the presence of his Messiah, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 4, 2018 at 1:43 a.m.
He believed to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. He faithfully served God until his very last breath. He was a living example of Christ’s love to all those around him.
Poppy was the son of Irving and Naomi Waters. He graduated from Mastbaum High School in 1955. Poppy enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1956 and later graduated from Philadelphia College of the Bible in 1971. He then married his beloved wife, Nancy, whom he loved and adored, in 1972.
One of his favorite hobbies was Shotokan karate, in which he achieved a black belt. He also had a run in with the “real” Bruce Lee and ended up with a broken nose.
Poppy and Nana had five children: Sherry L. Smith (deceased), Karen (Jim) Crockett, David Kenneth (Jessica) Waters, Robert E. Koehler and Deborah (Shawn) Walls. He also had 32 grandchildren: Jessica (Justin) Chamberlin, Jackie Smith, Jordan Smith, Sarah (Adam) Robinette, Seth Labreau, Rebecca Labreau, Aaron Crockett, Hannah Crockett, Shawna (Zack) Preston, Tori (Chris) Knight, Lauren Waters, Alicia Waters, Timothy Waters, Tyler Koehler, Katee (Jared) Hagan, Kyle Koehler, Laura Koehler, Julie Koehler, Kimberly (Keenan) Young, Kristen (Sheldon) Shaw, Kylee Walls, Shawn Michael Walls, Brandon Walls, Bradley Walls, Bryce Walls, Braydon Walls, Braylon Walls, Kassidy Walls, Brody Walls, Kaylee Walls, Brody Walls and Brayson Walls. He also had 13 great-grandchildren: Addyson Chamberlin, Leigha Robinette, Landon Robinette, Katie Labreau, Logan Preston, Sara Preston, Cheyenne Preston, Sawyer Preston, Brayden Knight, Blaise Knight, Liam Hagan, Hayden Shaw and Westin Shaw. He will also be greatly missed by his favorite neighbor, Katrina Pearson.
The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018 in Grace Baptist Church, 960 Children’s Home Road, Urbana. The Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 1 p.m. in Grace Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Miami Valley, who faithfully served Poppy for over two years. Memorials may be made in Poppy’s memory to Hospice of Miami Valley or Grace Baptist Church.
