Kay E. Charles, 68, of Urbana, died at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 8, 1944 in Urbana, the daughter of Robert and Bernice (Halfhill) Sidders. Kay attended Urbana Local through the 10th grade and upon its closing attended Urbana High School where she graduated. She worked at Urbana High School for a number of years, was a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking for those she loved and baking hundreds of Christmas cookies annually to deliver to family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gerald “Jerry” Charles, whom she married in November 1964, daughters, Annette Charles-Van Meter and her husband Markus of Urbana and Lisa Sanders and her husband Jeff of Urbana, grandchildren, Mary Rose, A.J. and Bishop Sanders and Bella Van Meter, sister-in-law, Jane Sidders of Urbana, brother, Max Sidders of Bellefontaine, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jerry and Tommy, and sister-in-law Bonnie Sidders. Family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 in WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual.
