Joanne "Jody" G. Remer

JoAnne (Jody) Grimes Remer passed away peacefully in her sleep October 12, 2022 at Vancrest. Jody was born May 4, 1924 in Urbana, Ohio to Frank and Alma (Beck) Grimes. She married the love of her life, Isaac (Ike) Urban Remer, in 1950. She leaves two daughters, Mollie Latour of Redlands, California, and Marcy (David) Troescher of Carson City, Nevada. She also leaves three grandchildren: Lacey Latour (Ronnie) Latham of Rialto, California; Kyle (Laura) Troescher of Sparks, Nevada; and Kelly (Jared) Wulff of Reno, Nevada. Additionally, she leaves five great-grandchildren.

Jody graduated from Urbana High School in 1941, and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She followed her parents to Santa Monica, California during World War II when her father opened the West Coast Distribution Center for Grime’s Manufacturing. When she returned to Ohio after the war, Jody worked for Rike’s Department Store in Dayton, Ohio. Much later in life, Jody opened and managed the JC Penney Catalog Store for 13 years in Urbana, Ohio.

Throughout her life, Jody was a staunch fan of the Ohio State Buckeye basketball and football programs, holding season football tickets since 1949. She supported the Mercy Hospital TWIG, Delta Theta Tau philanthropic sorority, Red Hats, and the Urbana United Methodist Church, where she was also an active member of the Esther Circle.

Jody’s husband, Ike, preceded her in death in 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary (Wise) Glossinger.

Services for Jody will take place at the Walter and Lewis Funeral Home, 642 South Main Street, Urbana, on Monday, October 24, 2022. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - noon, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. The graveside service will be at approximately 3:15 p.m. at Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana.

For those attending any of Jody’s services, the family encourages wearing Ohio State colors and/or apparel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Urbana United Methodist Church, 238 North Main Street, Urbana, or to your favorite charity.
