JENNY LEE HUMPHREY
February 8, 1938 – March 26, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jenny Lee Humphrey (nee Mitchell) of West Liberty. Jenny died on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Otterbein Green Hills in West Liberty after a lengthy illness. She was 87.
Jenny was born on February 8, 1938, in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Paul and Ruth (Brooks) Mitchell. Jenny retired from West Liberty-Salem schools after 20 years of service where she worked in the school cafeteria as Food Service Supervisor. After retiring from school, Jenny worked in the West Liberty Ice Cream Parlor and Hardware store. Jenny enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, traveling with her family, and watching PBS. She loved any kind of animal and enjoyed bird watching. She was an avid Nascar fan, and her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family at homes that she and her husband owned at Indian Lake.
Jenny graduated from Urbana Local school in 1955. She married her husband, the late Marion Dale Humphrey, in 1963 and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage together. Jenny is survived by her brother, Michael Mitchell, a daughter Laurie (Marcus) van Raalte of Clayton, CA, two sons Fred Humphrey of West Liberty, Ed (Kara) Humphrey of Beavercreek, OH and a stepson Tim Humphrey of San Francisco, CA. Jenny is also survived by five grandchildren, Beau, Logan and Chase (Kate) Humphrey, Meghan van Raalte, Sabrina (Isaac) Perez and one great-grandchild Leah Perez. Jenny is also survived by her beloved dog Harry.
Jenny is preceded in death by her parents, the late Paul and Ruth Mitchell and her husband Marion Dale Humphrey.
A celebration of Jenny’s life will be held on April 19, 2025, at 12p.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Kennard Church of the Nazarene with internment immediately following the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wayne Township near Kennard. Arrangements entrusted to the Walter and Lewis Funeral Home, Urbana. The family wants to thank the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for Jenny during her lengthy illness at Springfield Regional and Ohio State University Hospitals as well as the wonderful staff at Otterbein Green Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Paws Animal Shelter, 1535 W US Highway 36, Urbana, Ohio 43078.
