James "Jim" H. Schlabach

James Jim H. Schlabach, age 94, of Urbana, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Heartland of Urbana. Jim was born to the late Noah and Flora (Stanley) Schlabach, on May 16, 1921, in Moyock, North Carolina. Jim was a long-time volunteer for the Champaign County React Team, along with his wife, Betty. He retired from Schulers Bakery in Springfield after 50 years as a donut baker; working well into his 80s. Jim will be remembered as being an extremely kind, and well-loved man. Jim is survived by his son, Ken Schlabach of Urbana; step-daughter, Barbara Randall of Florida; step-son, William Woods of Florida; grandson, Jim (Tina) Schlabach of Columbus; as well as two great-grandsons, Bruce Schlabach of Columbus, and Aaron (Rachel) Schlabach of Grove City. Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a sister, Jean; step-daughter, Judy Payne; and grandson, Kenny Schlabach. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015, also in the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating.
