James Forrest Helfrich, 79, formerly of Urbana, passed away quietly on Friday, September 6, 2013. James was a resident at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, OH. He was born on February 16, 1934 in Urbana, OH, the son of John Walter and Martha (Bozman) Helfrich. James graduated from Urbana High School in 1952 and retired from Grimes after 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-58, and was then transferred to the U.S. Navy Reserves until 1978. James then served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1978-1990. Survivors include two sons, Jeff Helfrich and his wife Dorothy of Naples, FL, and Joseph Helfrich and his wife Tonnya and their two daughters, Amanda and Alison, all of Greenville, and sister, Nancy Canipe of White Oak, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Georgia (Zook) Helfrich of West Liberty, OH. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, with Rev. Linda Sprick-Kruse officiating.
