Hugh Leigh Spellman

Hugh Leigh Spellman, a cherished member of the Urbana community, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on January 5, 1942, in Urbana, Ohio, Hugh led a life characterized by kindness, dedication, and unwavering service.

After completing his education as a proud graduate of Urbana High School in 1960, Hugh served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. Following his military service, met and married his beloved Cynthia and they shared 56 years together. 

Hugh was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, where his spirit and generosity touched many lives. His love for the game of golf was well-known among friends and family, providing him joy and a chance to connect with others.

Hugh is survived by his beloved daughter, Stacy L. (Dr. Richard) Owens Jr., and his grandson, Richard "Richie" Owens III. He is also remembered fondly by his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Spellman, Susan Spellman, Marsha (Phil) Allen; brother-in-law, David (Debbie) Millner; as well as several nieces, who will miss his warmth and spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Spellman Sr. and Flossie (Crane) Spellman, his wife, Cynthia (Millner) Spellman, and his brothers, Robert L. Spellman Jr. and William Spellman.

Visitation for Hugh will be held on March 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Walter And Lewis Funeral & Cremation Center located at 642 S Main St, Urbana, OH 43078. A funeral service will follow on March 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at the funeral home.  Hugh will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Cynthia at Oak Dale Cemetery.

Hugh Leigh Spellman will be remembered not only for his contributions to his family and community but also for the gentle, kind spirit he brought into the lives of those who knew him. His legacy of warmth and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
