Harley E. Litreal, age 94, of Urbana, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 in Urbana Place. Harley was born to the late Edward James and Etta Ethel (Monroe) Litreal on September 4, 1922 in Peebles, Ohio. After high school, he proudly joined the U.S. Army during World War II. Harley served as a member of the Military Police, in the 13th Armored Division, travelling to Germany and France during this time. He also specialized as an Automotive Mechanic, a trade which he continued after his military service. Harley moved north to Champaign County, where he met and married the love of his life, Phyllis Collette. He was a self-employed Auto Mechanic for most of his life; it was a passion of his, as he continued to tinker around in his garage until the day he no longer could.
Harley is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis (Collette) Litreal; two sons, Carl Oberley of Delaware, and Robert Litreal; grandchildren, Ranee (Bruce) Gifford of Connecticut, Jason Poe of Urbana, Leanna (Andrew) Shorter of Delaware, and Jessica (Brad) Markin of Urbana, as well as Maryann, Carla and Dwayne Litreal; former son-in-law, Randy Poe; numerous great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Harley was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Suzette (Litreal) Poe, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m. in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
