H. Carlene Howe

HOWE, H. Carlene, age 94 of Urbana went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Urbana Health & Rehab.  Mom had suffered a stroke one year ago and passed due to complications.  She was born on April 13, 1929 at the family home in North Lewisburg, Ohio to the late Carl and Ruby (Greene) Holtkamp.  

 

Mom was a 1947 graduate of Urbana High School and called Champaign County home for her entire life excluding 1974-1987 when she lived in San Jose, California.  She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending her time quilting, knitting, crosswords, playing cards and putting together puzzles.  Mom had an amazing sense of humor and enjoyed life's simple pleasures. She loved to travel, especially taking cruises to tropical destinations.  Mom was a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church and will be sadly missed by those who knew her.  

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children: Tim Howe, Dale Howe and Brenda Rogers; brother, Ed Holtkamp and sister Helen Louise Kincaid. 

 

Mom leaves behind her son, Bruce Howe; grandchildren: Mary (Adam) Baum, Amy (DJ) Keopke, Kimberly Rogers, Matthew (Chris Monroe) Howe, Balynda Howe, Rochelle Howe, and Meggan Howe; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Rogers and Hattie May Howe.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanor Holtkamp; nieces and nephews: Cyndee Barman, Dwight Holtkamp, Gary Holtkamp, Terri Thornton and Robin Terry; cousin, Harry Holtkamp and dear friend, Esther Jones.  

 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Oak Dale Cemetery in the Mausoleum with remembrances beginning at 1:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers it was mom's wish that memorial contributions be made to the Urbana United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or Urbana High  School Alumni Association in her honor.  Condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com
