Gloria Jean Hidy

Gloria Jean Hidy, age 81 of Urbana, Ohio passed away on January 29, 2023 at Forest Glen Health Campus in Springfield, Ohio. She was born on October 31, 1941 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late William Jacob and Louise Eileen (Gilmore) Collins. They later moved to Urbana where Jean was raised and spent time at her parents grocery store, Collins Market. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, James Hidy, daughters: Kim (Mark) Wren and Lisa (Jeff) Walters, 9 grandchildren; Danielle, Michael, Stacey, Kris, Amy (Eric), Devan (Tonya), Whitney (Austin), Nolan, Mallory (Landon), 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, sister, Carol Charles of Jacksonville, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her beloved Shih Tzu, Oreo. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Shelley Nickerson, and sister, Janet Cooper.

Jean received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Urbana University in 1984. She spent time working for the Hall Company, the Urbana Daily Citizen, Grimes, and O’Cedar Vining. Jean enjoyed laying on the beach at Fort Myers Beach, collecting wine glasses, and gardening. She loved her Shih Tzu’s, but most importantly, she loved her grandkids. Jean was a hard-headed and determined woman that will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Forest Glen Health Campus for their loving and compassionate care of Jean.

Per Jean’s wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in Jean’s honor.
