Elizabeth "Betty" Asterino

Elizabeth F. “Betty” Asterino, 90, of Urbana, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 in Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana. She was born on January 29, 1922 in Tonawanda, NY, the daughter of William and Elsie (Lawrence) Costello. A 1940 graduate of St. Mary High School, Betty was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Mary Ladies Altar Society, D of I and Bereavement Committee. Betty is survived by her daughters, Terrye Barile of Cypress, CA, Mary Ellen (David) Johnson of Mingo and Margaret (Michael) Evilsizer of Springfield; sons, Roger Asterino of Oakland, CA, Mike (Maggie Taylor) Asterino of Springfield, Jim Asterino of Urbana, David (Robin) Asterino of Springfield and Kevin (Vicki) Asterino of Urbana; grandchildren, Mark (Cynthia) and David Barile, Matthew Eckurd, Maria and Millie Johnson, Justin Goney, Jeremy Asterino, Melissa Asterino, Ashley (Greg) Timmons, James (J.C.) (Becca) Asterino, Megan Asterino, Brooke (Pat) Martin, Carly (Jordan) Harper, Elizabeth, Kevin and Jonathon Asterino; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Brianna Blythe, Christian Barile, Aubree and Abigail Timmons, Faith and Isabella Asterino, Emily Musick, Savannah and Cooper Martin and Levi and Bentley Harper. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Asterino, parents, brothers, Ralph, William and Larry Costello, sisters Eleanor Morningstar and Millie Hadden, and great-grandchild, Caleb Harper. The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in the Walter & Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 231 Washington Ave., Urbana, with Father Greg Konerman celebrant. Entombment will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery Shepherd Mausoleum. Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in Urbana.
