Edward Vernon Evilsizor died on February 2, 2023, at age 94 in Urbana, Ohio. He was a descendant of early settlers to Champaign County who arrived in 1814. Ed was born on July 17, 1928, in his parent’s home on a farm in Jackson Township. He was enlisted in the US Army Air Force and U.S. Air Force from 1946-1949, honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Ed was married to Margaret (nee Achatz) on April 7, 1951. Ed and Margaret were parishioners of St Mary’s Catholic Church. Margaret died July 20, 2009. They had nine children and enjoyed travelling to visit family and sight-seeing in Canada.
Ed loved sports. In high school, and as a young adult, Ed played baseball, basketball, and was captain of the Urbana High School football team in 1945-46. He coached Little League, Catholic Youth and young adults in basketball and baseball. Ed played amateur baseball as catcher for the Urbana Merchants, who traveled throughout Ohio. Ed was the advisor to the Hotliners Electrical 4-H Club.
Ed attended Wittenberg College studying Physical Education. Ed and Margaret started dating after working together at the W.H. Marvin Co. He was the Receiving Foreman. After leaving Marvin’s, Ed sold insurance for National Life and Accident Insurance Co. Ed worked for Greenbelt Chemical Company selling fertilizer and seed. Ed started working for the Drackett Co in 1968. He enjoyed working at Drackett as Night Superintendent and retired after 22 years.
In early retirement, Ed enjoyed playing golf and travelling with Margaret to visit family in England, Michigan, New York and Florida, as well as exploring the wonderful places that God created such as the Rocky Mountains. Ed also enjoyed watching and attending sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Pre-K to NFL games.
Ed was preceded in death by Margaret and their son, Dean, daughter-in-law Deanna (King) Evilsizor and daughter-in-law Lorie (Standley) Evilsizor and two granddaughters, Maria Lowe and Toni Evilsizor and one great-grandson, Michael Schmidgall. He leaves behind eight children: Scott (Glo Shearer) Evilsizor, Jan Ridder, Nancy (Keith) Jackson, Bruce Evilsizor, Sonja Evilsizor, Kurt (Julie Liberatore) Evilsizor, Brett (Linda Harper) Evilsizor and Beth (Paul) Madsen, as well as 24 Grandchildren, 47 Great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 4-6p.m. at Walter & Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 11a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be held following the service at Oak Dale Cemetery.
