Douglas C. Mowrey

Douglas Craig Mowrey passed away on August 28, 2017 in his home at the Masonic Community in Springfield, Ohio. He was born on September 11, 1945 as the fifth of seven children, to David and Faye Mowrey in Lorain, Ohio. Doug joined the Navy out of high school and moved to Springfield in 1972 pursuing a career in education while serving in the Naval Reserves. Doug and his family have been part of the Springfield/Urbana area for the past 45 years.
Doug began his teaching career in the industrial arts. In 1984, after completing his undergraduate and master’s degrees in school administration, he accepted a principal position at Kenton Ridge High School. Doug retired from education in 2005 and from the Naval Reserves after 20 years of service. He spent his retirement years enjoying woodworking, stained glass, photography, horseback riding, scuba diving and traveling the world in search of his next adventure.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Mowrey Stokes (David) and their children Maya and Mallory; a son, Mark Mowrey (Corinne) and their children Nora and Cara; two sisters, Linda Everhart (Ed) and Janelle Richards; a brother, Michael Mowrey (Doris); a sister-in-law, Nancy Mowrey; a brother-in-law, Jim Van Horn; Jeanne Mowrey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. All grieve his passing and will miss him. He was preceded in death by; wife Linda Mowrey; his parents Faye and David Mowrey; and siblings, David Mowrey, Martin Mowrey and Cheryl Van Horn.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in the Urbana United Methodist Church, 238 N. Main St., Urbana, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating.
