On June 9th, 2022, Donald Jack Brown, 89, passed from this life and into the arms of his heavenly Father. Don was born on June 13, 1932, in Akron Ohio. He lived in Florida with his daughter Donna and then with his son, Tom in Urbana, Ohio. After 58 years of marriage, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Foster) Brown. Also preceded in death by parents, Gerald and Margaret (Boger) Brown, daughter Donna Lash of Florida, granddaughter, Amanda Brown, sister Mary, brothers Harold, David and Ron.
His love, smile and quiet presence will be deeply missed by his children, Tom Brown and Kathy (Bryan) Lile as well as his grandchildren Amy (Brian) Carruthers and Katy Medvetz, brothers Joe (Nancy) and William (Lydia) and sister Susan, sisters-in-laws, Becky and Peggy. Sister-in-law Karen and brother-in law Jack and their family in Florida, have missed Don since he left Florida, and are saddened by his loss.
Over the course of his lifetime, Don served in many ministries. He loved the Lord with all his heart. In his Christian walk, he was a self-taught biblical scholar, he studied and memorized the word of God, but also lived it throughout his life. At Northwest Avenue, Church of Christ in Tallmadge, Ohio, he initiated and faithfully served in a bus ministry. For several years, he canvassed neighborhoods, finding those who wished to attend church services, then faithfully brought them to and from church. He especially enjoyed bringing children to special summer events. Don taught Sunday School sessions and often took turns cleaning the church and serving meals.
At age 18, Don selflessly served our country in the United States Army and retired from Ford Motor Company after 33 years of service.
Don took great joy in fishing and camping in the great outdoors. He had a child-like quality when it came to family vacations, which in his excitement, in order to “get ahead of the crowd”, always began at 4:00am. Disney land, Nasa, and the beach were some of his favorite trips and the family was always first in line!
Don was truly a senior sci-fi nerd! He loved the early sci-fi stories about outer space and of course, loved all the episodes of Star Trek and the Star Wars Movies. Movies in general fascinated and mesmerized him with innocent joy.
Don was indeed a quiet man, a caring man that gently loved people. He loved and provided for his family and served the Lord with a grateful heart. We know he heard the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com
