Mr. Daniel “Dan” Joseph O’Kane, devoted son, father, husband, brother, and uncle, died unexpectedly on May 20, 2018, in Urbana at the age of 60.
Dan was born on March 30, 1958, in Dayton, OH to Susan (nee Carpec) and John J. O’Kane. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1976 and Wright State University in 1981 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a lifelong entrepreneur, mentor to many, and proud Radio Shack alumnus. After earning his teaching certificate, he taught at Scott High School in Toledo and most recently business and marketing at Urbana High School for the past 15 years. He was a passionate teacher and loved all of his students. He was an avid sports fan and witness to more than 10 Final Fours, multiple college football bowl games, and had a particular fondness of Notre Dame, the University of Dayton, the New York Mets, and Wright State.
Dan is survived by his beloved daughter Colleen O’Kane, of Arlington, VA; his step-son Michael Wuestt of Covington, OH; his brother John F. O’Kane and his wife, Elyse, of Stone Mountain, GA; his brother Timothy O’Kane and his wife, Linda, of Cincinnati; nephews Matthew (Megan), Tony (Alexandra), and Stephen (Jacqui); grandnephew John; and, grandnieces Sophie, Anna, and Claire.
He is preceded in death by his mother Susan O’Kane and father John J. O’Kane of Dayton, his first wife, Tracie (nee Konicki) O’Kane, and his wife, Marie O’Kane.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. Attendees are welcome to share their memories of Dan starting at 6:30 p.m. The memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 231 Washington Ave., Urbana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Urbana City Schools for the Dan O’Kane Scholarship, 711 Wood St., Urbana, OH 43078.
