Dan passed away in the Miami Valley Hospital on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from complications suffered in a recent burn accident. He was born in Urbana to Rheba and Karl Ridder on November 15, 1945.
He was a graduate of Urbana High School class of 1964. Dan worked at the Howard Paper Mill for 42 years and was the owner of Ridder’s Body Shop for 50 years. He had a great passion for fishing and playing cards with many close friends. He will always be remembered for his easy-going personality, his infectious laugh and storytelling, sharing a joke and hanging out with his dog, Mo.
Dan is survived by his mother, Rheba (Comer) Ridder; wife of 49 years, Sharon (Cotrell); sisters, Deanne (George) Luckenbill and Sarah Finch; sister-in-law, Linda Ridder; children, Jeff (Tina Murphy) Bertsch, Heidi (Tim) Fain, Randy (Angie) Ridder and Darcy (Dave) Bacher; grandchildren, Trevor and Kaelyn Bertsch, Marissa, Timmy and Ali Fain, Colin Schwartz, Avery and Brady Ridder and Landree and Malynn Bacher.
Preceding him in death were his father, Karl Ridder; brother, Karl “Butch” Ridder Jr.; brother-in-law, Bill Finch; and grandparents, Fred and Lilly Ridder and Albert and Cora Comer.
Dan was a member of the Moose, the AMVETS and participated in the Lake St. Mary’s Fishing League for the last eight years.
He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-10 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 in The Cheetah Lounge, 211 Glenn Ave., Urbana.
Memorial contributions in Dan’s name may be made to any local animal shelter, St. Jude’s Hospital or Shriner’s Hospitals.
