Cynthia Katherine Belford

Cynthia Katherine Belford, age 70, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2025.

Born in Paxton, Illinois, Cynthia graduated from Urbana High School in 1972 before pursuing her passion for nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio State University, a career path that brought her immense fulfillment. After moving to Maryland, Cynthia worked as a postpartum nurse at Holy Cross Hospital for 20 plus years, where she touched the lives of many families. She also gave birth to her two daughters at that very hospital. She later moved back to Urbana and continued her nursing career as a dedicated home care nurse. Her commitment to caring for others was evident in all she did; she had a nurturing spirit and a deep devotion to helping those in need.

Cynthia is survived by her loving daughters, Heather McCarthy and Brittany Harris; granddaughter, Kaelyn McCarthy; her siblings, Diana L. Caldwell, Dr. Earel M. Belford Jr., Christina J. Hamilton, and Mary L. Belford; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura Grammling Belford and Earel Mylroie Belford.

A celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held on Saturday March 1 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Walter and Lewis Funeral Home, Urbana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Every Mother Counts or a charity of choice.
