Charles E. McKenzie age 61 of Urbana passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born on February 15, 1959 to the late Francis and Edith (Stapleton) McKenzie in Paintsville, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his sisters: Janet McKenzie, Betty Daniels, and Rox Anne Debord and brothers: Francis McKenzie Jr. And James McKenzie. Charles married Geraldine "Geri" Kimbler on June 23, 1979 in Chandlersville, Kentucky. She survives him as well as their daughters: Amanda (Charles Kaneff) Spires and Robyn (Joey) Preston; grandchildren: Daniel McKenzie, Tori Kaneff, Chris Kaneff, Breyden Webb, Alivia Preston, Lillian Webb, Hunter Preston, and Laila Preston. He is also survived by his siblings: Rose Blanton, Paul Darrell McKenzie, Judy Grim, Karen Hamilton, Barbara Conley, Rhonda Cantrell, Toby McKenzie, Judy Vanhoose, Robert McKenzie, Ilene Davis, Ford McKenzie as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles was currently working at KTH. He also worked in construction for 25 plus years and worked in the coal mines of Eastern Kentucky. Charles' strengths and passions were the love for his family and friends. Some of his proudest moments include the births of his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and motorcycle riding. His greatest joy this summer was a motorcycle ride through the infamous Dragon Tail at Gatlinburg with his wife, Geri, grandson Daniel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Charles was known for his love of basketball; he was a huge University of Kentucky basketball fan. Charles had a generous heart. He would pick up hitchhikers, feed them, give them money, and help them get where they were going. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Walter & Lewis Funeral Home from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and a celebration of his life will follow on Monday, December 28, 2020 beginning at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.
