Charles Blaine Watkins, “Buggs,” 86, of Urbana, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in The OSU Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born on October 13, 1930 in Mingo, OH, a son of James and Mary Evelyn (Johnson) Watkins, who lovingly called him “Junior.” An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, who helped create helicopter landings for MASH units, Charlie was a timber cutter and retired from the Champaign County Engineer’s Office. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Urbana and Eagles of Indian Lake. He was loved by many friends and family not mentioned.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Markin) Watkins; daughter, Sue Watkins Carter; son, Rodney (Debbie) Watkins; brothers, Harvey (Peggy) Watkins and John (Shirley) Watkins; sisters, Josephine (Wesley) Metz and Eva (Charlie) Johnson; grandchildren, Nathaniel Watkins and family, Byron (Kristen) Watkins and Ash (Lauren) Watkins; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Charlie “Bear;” and sister-in-law, Mary Watkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray (Opaline), Jake (Eva), Jim (Dora), Roger and Lawrence; and sisters, Elsie (Manny) Spence and Evelyn (George) Markin.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017 and 12-1 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 in WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, followed by a service at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Urbana.
