Alva G. Underwood

Alva Gene Underwood, 91, of Urbana, passed away on December 17, 2016 in Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been a resident of Heartland of Urbana for almost two years.
He was born in Champaign County on January 6, 1925, the son of Elva and Viola (Lucas) Underwood. A graduate of Urbana High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and later worked for Grimes Manufacturing for 34 ½ years.
Survivors include his children, Keith (Susie), Joyce (Lex) Andrews, Clayton (Julie) and Kenny (Audrey); 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 4 great, great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Tina; one sister, Marva (Louis) Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Norma (Robinson) Underwood; son, Philip; 2 grandsons; his parents; and 6 siblings.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Herschel Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
